Northeastern University Library Northeastern University Library was founded in 1923. After more than 100 years of development, it has continuously improved its literature information resource system and literature information service system, and enhanced its professional capabilities and service levels. Today, Northeastern University Library has become a modern university library with rich collections, advanced facilities, and the ability to meet the needs of the university's construction of first-class universities and first-class disciplines. Northeastern University Library consists of three buildings with a total area of 64,210 square meters. The Nanhu Campus Library was put into use in 1985, covering an area of 16,000 square meters; the Shenhe Campus Library was opened in 1990, with an area of 4,510 square meters; and the Hunnan Campus Library was put into use in 2017, covering an area of 43,700 square meters. The library has eight departments, namely the Document Construction Department, the Reading Promotion and Information Literacy Teaching and Research Department, the Decision-making and Intellectual Property Service Department, the Scientific and Technological Information Retrieval and Subject Service Department, the Technical Service Department, the Reader Service Department One, the Reader Service Department Two, and the Comprehensive Business Department. The library is open for 105 hours per week and has 113 staff members. The current director is Professor Zhang Guolian. Northeastern University Library currently houses approximately 3.9 million volumes of printed books, forming a collection system that is mainly focused on science and engineering, with specialties in mining and metallurgy, and covering multiple disciplines such as materials, mechanical engineering, automation engineering, management engineering, and social sciences. Over the years, the library has intensified its efforts to adjust the structure of its literature resources, purchasing about 50 Chinese and foreign databases including SCI, IEL, Elsevier, Ei Village, Springer Link, CNKI, Chaoxing, and Wanfang, thus establishing a composite resource system that combines printed and electronic literature. In addition to Chinese literature, the collection also includes a relatively rich variety of English, Russian and Japanese literature. Besides, there are a small number of works in other languages such as German, French and Korean. This library is one of the 100 collection units of the "Reproduced Rare Books of China" nationwide, and it houses large-scale cultural classics such as the Wenyuan Pavilion Edition of the "Complete Library in Four Sections". As a library of a CERNET node university, our library has been engaged in network construction at an early stage. In 1995, the library's OPAC was connected to the Internet. Since then, with the development of information technology, we have continuously deepened networked and digital services. The library has now achieved self-service borrowing for all open-shelf collections, promoted digital mobile services, strengthened online reading functions, upgraded the library's automated integrated system, and realized inter-campus borrowing and returning for students and teachers in Hunnan Campus and Nanhu Campus, 24-hour database services, and remote access via VPN. We have achieved gigabit network access and 100-megabit access to desktops, with a capacity of 1,000 concurrent users, which has greatly enhanced the library's technical service support capabilities, ensuring that readers can conveniently and quickly utilize network information resources and better providing high-quality services and support for the university's talent cultivation, scientific research, social services, and cultural inheritance and innovation. We have launched the official WeChat platform (neu_lib), and established columns such as New Book Recommendation, Good Book Time, Micro-Periodical Reading and Listening, Micro-Library Classroom, Freshman Column, and Information Service. By integrating various forms such as video, text, images, voice, and animation, we promote the library's collection resources and services, and expand the time and space for reader services. We have strengthened our subject service work, focusing on users' personalized needs, providing the latest progress and cutting-edge information in research fields, and offering multiple information consultation services such as "personalized push of frontier papers and latest research achievements" to all teachers and students in the university. For many years, we have been undertaking the teaching of "Literature Retrieval and Utilization" for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. In 2003, it obtained the qualification of the Ministry of Education's novelty search station and was one of the first 29 ministerial-level novelty search units certified by the Ministry of Education. It has undertaken a large number of in-depth information services such as scientific and technological novelty search and information consultation. It is not only an important part of the teaching and research work of our university, but also an important window for serving the society. In 2017, it was approved as one of the 120 patent literature service outlets nationwide and became one of the first batch of patent literature service outlets approved by the National Intellectual Property Administration. It provides patent literature support, patent information consultation and other services for the public and innovation entities. In 2018, Northeastern University approved the establishment of the Intellectual Property Information Service Center, which is located in the library. In 2019, it joined the Alliance of Intellectual Property Information Service Centers in Higher Education Institutions. In 2021, it was approved as a National Intellectual Property Information Service Center in Higher Education Institutions, providing full-process intellectual property information services for the university's intellectual property creation, application, protection, management and service, and promoting the transfer and transformation of the university's scientific and technological achievements. The library, in line with the strategic development goals of the university, strives to build a literature and information platform that meets the needs of a world-class university, providing strong information service support for the university's "Double First-Class" construction.
